TDF finished, “lets go and do Alpe D’huez and Ventoux said Finley”. Ok I said, a few emails later Gerry and John had a trip put together and our flights were booked. Super quick responses, they made it so easy, arranging everything from transfers to accommodation. The accommodation was superb, two nights in Mazan then two nights in Alpe D’Huez. Day 1 Gerry met us as arranged and took us to our starting point for the Ventoux ride. The Weather/Wind, was causing some concern, so we climbed to chalet raynard and made the call on the last 6km. We’d come a long way and decided to go for it! The wind was brutal and nearly blew us over, Gerry positioned himself on every exposed corner giving us advanced warning of the conditions, keeping us safe and upright all the way to the top.

The decent and ride back to Mazan was a joy, all down hill and strong following wind on the flat parts. Day 2 was with John and a recovery ride. John knows some fantastic quite back roads through the endless vineyards. We checked out and transferred to Alpe D’huez with John, the morning was a decent followed by a short warm up loop before the climb. I asked John to take care of Fin as he’d probably drop me on the first hill, which he did. every Km or so John would be positioned to take so great snaps and make sure we had all we needed.

Needless to say Finley reached the TDF finish a long way ahead of Captain slow. John was with him and suggested a roll back down to meet me on the way up. Was a super end to great climb having the boy with me for the last 2K and past the TDF finish. To top it off we spent the afternoon running the MTB trails before joining John for Dinner. Gerry and John run a tight ship and are super flexible with great local knowledge. Fantastic trip, thanks guys we’ll be back.
